Individual & Couples Therapy
IN-PERSON THERAPY IN PHILADELPHIA, PA
VIRTUAL THERAPY IN PA, NY, NJ AND KY
Seeking a therapist can be a daunting task. Making the choice to find a safe space where you can talk through what's weighing on you - whether it's confusion, distress, or those thoughts that just won't let up and always leave you feeling like something’s off - is a big step. Congratulations.
Your feelings count.
Your need to sort out whatever it is – your past trauma, your relationship, your need to make a decision about how to move on to the next phase of your life.
The good news is that there is less stigma today about going to therapy or having a mental health issue. That is critical, given the stress in today’s world and the many changes in how to negotiate how to label and identify – ourselves and others.
Therapy is a place to sort out that confusion.
At some point you may need to look at the choices you’ve made and come to terms with that, and perhaps change something about you or what you are doing to make for a happier and healthier future.
Therapy is a commitment – to oneself
Individual Therapy
Individual therapy is a safe place to talk about, ponder, and reflect on the story that brings you to therapy – and the symptoms that are causing your distress, anxiety, tension, tears, exasperation or perhaps another strong emotion?
Therapy can be a messy, non-linear process. Your emotions can run from being totally calm and focused to then feeling emotionally charged and all over the place. That’s ok, and it is often that “messiness” that is part of the process.
Couples Therapy
Couples therapy should be a hopeful opportunity despite the intensity you might feel about hitting a wall in your relationship.
It is important to remember that each of you comes to couples therapy as an individual with unique feelings - and that they all count. My job is to help guide you through exploring and honoring each perspective with respect and care.
Ultimately, couples should be able to find their way back or perhaps a new way to feel appreciated and cared for; it’s a simple, but kind and caring goal.
Therapeutic Approaches
I have expertise in various approaches. Here are some that I use frequently that have proven to many to be the type of support and direction needed for clearing away the “muck.”
EMDR: a significant treatment for trauma that eases anxiety, panic and depression.
Narrative Therapy: a positive approach to help people “re-story” old narratives to a “preferred” way of viewing their life, offering more hope and happiness.
Structural Family Therapy: an approach to help families improve healthier ways to relate to one another.
CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy) and DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy): approaches that help one to cope with stress and better ways to relate to others and the world.
The Gottman Method: a couples’ therapy approach that identifies negative styles of relating to better understand how to create a more positive way of interacting.
