About Sharon

THERAPIST, CONSULTANT, AND AUTHOR

You can and should be free from the chronic emotional distress,  triggers, relationship issues, sadness from loss or just feeling lost.  There’s hope.

As a seasoned therapist I can confidently offer hope and guidance for you  –  given my years of working with many people and with having my own life experiences of laughter, tears and loss.

Working With Me in Therapy

I bring many years of experience as a therapist, working with both individuals and couples to support their mental health and well-being.

As a behavioral health professional, my interests and areas of expertise have evolved to focus on interpersonal conflict and trauma. This includes addictions, interpersonal violence (also referred to as domestic violence), and other forms of trauma. Working with individuals in navigating life transitions and helping them cope with anxiety and stress is also an area of interest and a very common concern for many.

As a seasoned clinician, I use a number of treatment approaches, but most important is making the connection to have a trusting relationship.  That is noted to be the most important element in being successful in engaging people to make the changes they desire when seeking therapy.

I embrace several theoretical frameworks that are quite effective:  Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) Narrative Therapy and Structural Family Therapy are integrated in my practice. Also, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) are additional ways to “take action” to help people move one out of their distress.  Those approaches can and will be explained by me throughout the therapy process.

EDUCATION AND LICENSURE

I have a Master of Social Work (MSW) from Syracuse University and a Master of Science in Communication and Rhetoric from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute. I have also completed several post-graduate certifications. I am licensed to practice therapy in New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, and Kentucky

Professional Background
and Areas of Expertise

ACADEMIC AND SUPERVISORY ROLES

In addition to my clinical work, I have also served as a supervisor and director with organizational administrative responsibilities.

My career has included the rewarding experience of teaching as an adjunct professor to both undergraduate and graduate students. I have been a supervisor of social workers and counselors pursuing professional licenses, helping to guide and mentor the next generation of behavioral health professionals.

EMPLOYMENT ACCROSS DIVERSE SETTINGS

Throughout my career, I have worked in a number of settings:  higher education, for-profit, and non-profit agencies, state and country programs, while also maintaining a private practice. These varied roles have allowed me to develop a comprehensive understanding of the behavioral health field.

CONSULTING AND TRAINING

In my capacity as a consultant to agencies, I train clinicians on the essential elements of psychotherapy and how to write measurable outcomes. My approach to outcome measurement is based on the frameworks outlined in my book, Writing Measurable Outcomes in Psychotherapy, published by Oxford University Press.
